For the past 33 years, Heather has been employed by Fraser Academy in a variety of roles, including Head Tutor and Director of Language Training, where she concurrently trained tutors from across Canada and United States in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Upon her recent retirement, Heather was contracted to assume the position of Learning Centre Director for the B.C. Learning Centres for Children with Dyslexia.
Heather is a member of the International Dyslexia Association, the Canadian Academy of Therapeutic Tutors, the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, and has served on the board of the B.C. International Dyslexia Association, the BC Learning Disabilities Association and the Zion Lutheran School.
During her 38 years as an Orton-Gillingham practitioner, Heather has tutored hundreds of students from grades two to twelve, mentored countless teachers and tutors, and has worked with many prominent psychologists and other educational professionals in an effort to help children with dyslexia. Heather’s passion comes from being a parent of two dyslexic sons and being a dyslexic herself, giving her firsthand experience of the difference multi-sensory language training makes on the lives of the students and their parents.
